The Lightgate D is a dedicated and cost-effective solution for the origination of large format, low spatial frequency, achromatic diffractive patterns, and images for premium packaging applications.

The system utilises a high-speed laser scanning system to scan a single focussed laser beam directly onto a continuously moving photosensitive plate. The laser directly writes the required holographic gratings line by line at the ultra-fast speeds necessary for large format diffractive pattern mastering. Direct-laser etching enables deeper features to be created, providing brighter and whiter patterns than is possible using more traditional two-beam laser interference techniques.

​Lightgate D systems can be custom built to make any size of diffractive pattern, from 500 x 500 mm (20" x 20") to 1.2 x 1.6 meters (48" x 62").

​The Lightgate D is supplied with Lightgate Control, a dedicated and user-friendly program that controls all aspects of the achromatic diffractive pattern design and mastering process. Included in the software is an algorithmic gradient pattern generator enabling the recording of super smooth gradient transitions, such as achromatic 'pillars of light', 'bull's eye', and 'radial' patterns, without banding over large areas. The system is also supplied with Spatial Imaging's Pattern Generator, a program for the generation of random shape and gradient 'pillars of light' patterns for security and packaging applications.

A dual Lightgate D - Lightgate P system can be provided to create all the features of both systems in a single machine.
